Collective Sound Checks

Collective Sound Checks invite you to take part in new sound experiments with mobile devices. Each session will feature a different scenario: playing music together, playing a group game, or exploring an augmented reality environment with sounds and lights. The workshop scenarios will change depending on the technologies developed in the CoSiMa* project and the participants’ opinions.

Experiments developed by IRCAM, Orbe, and NoDesign during the CoSiMa project with EnsadLab (École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs), ESBA TALM (École supérieure des beaux-arts du Mans), and ID Scènes. CoSiMa (Collaborative Situated Media) is a research project supported by the Agence national de la recherche, coordinated by IRCAM. An IRCAM/Studio 13/16-Centre Pompidou coproduction. A Futur en Seine associated event.

The CoSiMa project aims at developing a platform for collaborative and collective interaction based on recent mobile and web technologies. The envisaged applications include collective audiovisual performances, collaborative games, and interactive fictions in the framework of artistic projects, innovative urban services, and marketing communication. The CoSiMa platform turns the smartphone in everybody’s pocket into a means of collaborative production and collective expression.

The research carried out at IRCAM is carried out primarily in the context of the mixed research lab STMS (Sciences et technologies de la musique et du son), with the support of the French Ministry of Culture and Communication, the CNRS, the université Pierre et Marie Curie, and the Inria.
