Conducting Master Class Led by Peter Eötvös
ACADEMY
The young conductors led by Péter Eötvös have joined the flamboyant virtuosity of John Adams’ Chamber Symphony, in the spatial distribution of Intervalles-Intérieurs, and in the Gobi desert of L’esprit des dunes. Here Tristan Murail calls upon an allusion to Tibetan music and Mongolian harmonic singing techniques, an analogy supported by the electronics that create a perfect fusion between timbre and harmony, samples and real-time. L’esprit des dunes, striking by its originality and its melodic writing, is reminiscent of a mysterious phenomena: the friction of grains of sand as they are moved by the wind, giving the impression of hearing the “desert singing” or listening to the extraordinary.
