Rendezvous: Récital Florent Boffard, June 26

Florent Boffard began his musical studies at the age of 12 at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris under Yvonne Loriod where he won first prize in piano. The following years, he won first prize for chamber music (in Geneviève Joy’s class), harmony, counterpoint, and accompaniment. In 1982, he won the International Claude Kahn Piano Competition in Paris and the following year won the International Vianna da Motta Piano Competition in Lisbon, an award that provided him with the opportunity to perform under Leon Fleisher.

As a soloist with the Ensemble Intercontemporain from 1988 to 1999, he was in contact with some of the major composers of today and premiered works by Boulez, Donatoni, Ligeti, and others.

Invited to perform in England, Germany, Austria, Portugal, Italy, the United States (New York and Washington), he has played with numerous orchestras including the Orchestre National de Lyon, the Orchestre des Pays de la Loire, the Philharmonisches Orchester Freiburg. Bouffard has performed under conductors such as Pierre Boulez, Simon Rattle, and David Robertson. He has played in numerous international festivals (Salzbourg, Berlin, Aldeburgh, Bath, Bastad, Bruxelles, Kuhmo, Aspen, La Roque d’Anthéron, etc.) and has recorded several CDs including Structures for two pianos by Pierre Boulez with Pierre-Laurent Aimard (DG), Sequenza IV for piano by Luciano Berio (DG) and the 2nd Sonata for violin and piano by Bartok with Isabelle Faust (Harmonia Mundi). Harmonia Mundi also produced a CD dedicated entirely to piano etudes by Debussy and Bartok.

In 2001, Florent Boffard received the Belmont Prize from the Forberg-Schneider Foundation (Munich), for his commitment to the contemporary music.

In 2013, Florent Boffard began his collaboration with Mirare. Their first achievement was the release of a CD of Shoenberg’s “Works for solo piano” that won “5 Diaposons” when released and was Gramophone magazine’s “Editor’s Choice” in September 2013.
